Episode 94: Goodbyes

We say goodbye to Andy Schleck and the racing season, as we reminisce about Andy Schleck and recap Worlds and Lombardia. We also wonder if we’ll look back and see Oleg as the “Idea Man” who saves cycling and discuss whether Astana is playing the UCI and MPCC.

Episode 93: Worlds preview

As we recorded this the night before the ITT, I’m definitely eating my words today… don’t judge too much! We also talk about Sagan and whether soon only the super teams of Saxo and BMC will be left, whether the anti-doping crusade is ruining cycling, Tyler Ferrar’s move to MTN, and more!

Special Edition: The Economics of Cycling

For this episode, Anna was joined by Adam (known on Twitter as @followAdam) to talk about the economics of cycling!

We start with quite a tangent on our cycling crushes and discuss who’s attractive. There’s talk of how cycling sustains an unsustainable model, how cycling could be made more TV friendly (but should it be??), rider salary, how American cyclocross is different than European ‘cross…

  • Tinkov actually has some thoughts about the set up of cycling that aren’t terrible [CyclingNews]
  • Professional salaries [Cycling Tips]
  • How Much Does a Rider Earn? [Inner Ring]

Episode 61: The Morality of Doping

Cookson is already making a good impression. Who knows what the future will bring, but for now, Cookson is doing okay by us. [Road.cc]

We take it as a good sign that Gilbert is willing to appeal to the UCI to lessen the racing load [CyclingNews]

Perhaps Twitter should take a step back and consider how their reactions against alleged doped riders might contribute to their mental breakdown before they go patting themselves on the back too hard over saving Santambrogio [Road.cc]

We round out the ‘cast with some cyclocross! We do a brief overview of the season so far.

  • Check out the #Svenness videos by @CXHairs for some cool looks into cyclocross tactics.

Episode 60: The king is dead, long live the king!

We’re baaaack! After an unintentional hiatus, we’re back on the podcast wagon. Jeff reveals our break was the result of him going to Europe to campaign for me to be UCI president.

First up BREAKING NEWS: Fat Pat is gone! We never thought this day would come. Although Jeff’s bid to get me as president fails, McQuaid’s bid fails as well, and Brian Cookson is the new UCI president. We discuss having cautious optimism we have about Cookson’s ‘reign.’

We ‘wrap-up’ the Vuelta by talking about the reaction to Horner’s win. Anna talks herself into like Horner.

We rant about the World Championships. It really bothers us that the race doesn’t always accurately reflect who had the best season. We think it should be by points! (and if we went by UCI rankings, Froome should have the rainbow jersey) Also, Jeff thinks we should change rainbow stripes to rainbow target.

We actually talk about women’s racing! Jeff does a great job analyzing the women’s World Championship race.

We go on weird F1 and the American Cup (sailing) tangents.

We are BEFUDDLED by the Giro d’Italia starting in Belfast. Apparently it is now the Giro d’Italia and Ireland. The whole tradition of starting GTs in other countries makes NO SENSE.

Episode 30: Talkin’ Shit

We give Skype high fives, we talk shit about things we don’t know anything about, and generally ramble on.

DOPING!

  • Vaughters supports Kimmage (link) and speculates that people aren’t speaking out because they’re afraid of the consequences.
  • Kimmage is energized by this support (give here!).
  • Jeff likes to pay his bills late. Or at least not early. Just like USADA (link). And honestly, why are we even talking about this stuff anyway, when we actually have no idea what is really going on??

WOMEN’S CYCLING!!

  • Stefan Wyman is using the power of social media to collect donations to support the women’s team he owns and manages. Donate here! Anna convinces Jeff that this is actually a good idea.

TRANSFERS!

  • Basso and Pozzato to BankBank?? (link)

RACING!

  • We talk about Bert winning Milano-Torino, Lombardia, and the newly revealed Giro route.

Episode 29: Grumpy Old Man

Jeff is back again this week, and Anna gets distracted by the color maroon, we discuss why Anna would make a terrible professional cyclist (besides the obvious), and she declares herself the Jan Ullrich of podcasting. Plus, Jeff casts the role of Hein Vebruggen in the upcoming cycling movie!

NEWS!

  • First, we discuss Cannondale taking over the lead sponsor title at Liquigas (articlearticle)
  • Pat McQuaid and the UCI does its best impression of a flip-flopping politician, and decides maybe truth and reconciliation isn’t such a good idea after all (article)
  • Hein Verbruggan does his best grumpy old/senile man, and gives a crazy-pants interview (article)
  • Verbruggan/McQuaid sue Kimmage (article)
  • Operacion Puerto trial begins (article)

TRANSFERS!

WORLDS!
