The podcast is getting all fancy, guys! Listen to hear our upgrades ūüėČ Thanks to Jeff’s friend, Dan (@SonicBlissProd) for creating our new intro!

Jeff compares Nibali to Vino!! Anna is excited that everyone else is finally realizing how AMAZING Nibali is and the podcast comes dangerously close to becoming “The Nibali Show”. Jeff puts curses on everyone (except Nibali). We’re both so happy to see Frank back in action. And be on the lookout for our new feature, “Dear Pelotonitis Podcast” where we answer all your relationship advice. We start with “Rhymes with Deaf”…

Deep Thoughts: TdF ’14 Stage 14

Nibali is sending a message. And that message is “Oh, you’re going to attack me? That’s cool, as long as you don’t mind me attacking you right back SO HARD your face will fall off and then I’ll go win the stage for fun. So, you know, go ahead and attack me!”

  • However happy I am that Nibali won another stage, I do kind of wish he would have let either Majka or Koening get the win. I’m often of two minds about ‘giving away the win’, but for someone who’s already got two stages AND will most likely win the overall, the win might not mean as much as someone from a smaller team or someone who’s a domestique.
  • Pretty sad to see Porte drop out the back :/ I liked him and enjoyed watching him get some time in the spotlight.
  • Tejay was pretty great today! Was impressed with his climbing and the way he stuck with Bardet. He’s now moved up to 5th!! Maybe he could move up into 3rd? But the French are strong right now- will be a battle to topple them, I think.
  • I’ve seen a little chatter on my timeline about how some people think, after seeing Nibali perform, that Froome or Contador being there wouldn’t have made a difference. I disagree to a point- who knows what could’ve been. It’s all coulda, woulda, shoulda at this point. I think fitness-wise, he’s a good match to Bert and Froome. But he would have to pit his Astana team against the super strong Sky and Saxo teams. And I’m less sure his team would have been up to battling those teams.

Episode 80: Panda Poop!

The dreaded “d” word (doping!) makes a comeback. We tackle the subject and come to NO conclusions, plus talk about Fleche Wallonne and LBL. Anna wants to hate Lance but is secretly (or not so secretly anymore!) fascinated by him. And we finally solve the mystery of Dan Martin’s LBL crash: panda poop.

Episode 73: Name Butchers

After talking about Strade Bianche, Roma Maxima (that’s a race??), and Paris-Nice, we argue about whether Farrar is too nice to be a good sprinter and decide to pay more attention to UnitedHeathCare team! The Damn Yankees corner mostly features lots of name-butchering and Anna invites Craig Lewis to ‘get in touch.’ Also, who’s interested in a cycling dating show??

Episode 39: 2012 Cycling Moments

In this special (short) episode, we talk about some the 2012 cycling moments that helped make the season memorable for us!

In Anna’s (very) unscientific survey, there were a few moments that quite a few people mentioned.

  • Tom Boonen’s win at Paris-Roubaix

  • Ryder winning the Giro
  • The Olympics- Vos’ emotional win and Taylor’s oh-so-close 4th

Then there’s the race that got Anna’s vote: Milan-Sanremo. Watching Nibali, Cancellara and Gerrans duke it out until the end, and cross the line with the peloton snapping at their heels- amazing!

Other, smaller moments that got votes:

  • Iljo Kaisse and the Tour of Turkey- slipping his chain in the last 2km, yet still managing to hold off the peloton and take the stage (at 6:50)

  • Stage 17 of the Veulta (one of Anna’s favs), when Rodriguez finally cracked and Contador took an emotional win

  • Stage 8 of the Tour, when Madiot freaked out over Pinot’s win

  • Stage 15 of the Giro, when Rabottini refuses let Rodriguez take away his solo breakaway efforts

All of these moments helped make 2012 an awesome year for cycling. We can’t wait for the new season to start and make more moments!

Episode 26: The Optimists Club (now Lance Free!)

Marianne and I do our best Pollyanna attempt and try to look on the bright side of cycling. Also, we declare this a Lance-free episode! But we still can’t escape doping, as Tyler Hamilton’s new tell-all memoir comes out.

Before the show notes, here are all the articles I’ve collected on the Lance developments since our last recording:

  • Sheryl Crow questioned in the Lance investigation¬†article
  • Why are we, as humans, so opposed to performance enhancement? And where are the boundaries?¬†article
  • After Phil Liggett’s¬†apperance¬†defending Lance, Michael Ashenden writes him an open letter¬†article
  • Mike Anderson, Lance’s mechanic, talks about life with Lance and how he used his power and influence for evil¬†article
  • How Lance is able preserve his image¬†article
  • Changing their minds, yet again, UCI says it won’t be afraid to sanction Lance¬†article
  • USADA says it’s in possession of positive samples¬†article
  • What if Lance would’ve had to testify at Floyd’s trail?¬†article
  • For some, the lies overshadow the good¬†article

DOPING!

  • We discuss Hamilton’s tell all memoir and how it must feel for him (A Bonnie D. Ford¬†preview)
  • We talk about Jorg Jaksche (without butchering his name too badly!) and his reflection of his own experiences doping, and confessing to said doping (article)
  • We are concerned by Vaughters’¬†outing¬†of the doping done by some of his riders- do they know he did that? (based on his¬†Twitter feed, no, he did not mean to out them- he just got carried away)
  • Anna wonders if knowing someone doped, or is doping, changes how you feel about watching them race
  • As eternal optimists, we hate the idea of “once a doper, always a doper”

RACING!

  • Marianne says “I told you so,” as Andy says he won’t be back racing again (article)
  • Contador seems to be playing hardball, by refusing to race the UCI’s baby (the Tour of¬†Beijing) if he won’t earn points there (article)
  • Poor BMC- Cadel ends his season (article). But even though their “superstars” are no-hitters this season, many of the B team are doing really well!
  • Bradley didn’t enjoy the Tour- neither did we, but for different reasons (article). And Anna talks about how every forgets Nibali did the same thing Contador is doing (albeit with less success).

VUELTA!

  • We give mad props to Cam Meyer (who’s left to rest up for Worlds) and Thomas De Gendt for being breakaway superstars. We then discuss how the Vuelta is less breakaway friendly than the Tour.
  • We love Contador’s attitude about the Vuelta. We wonder how no one had to get off their bikes and walk up some of those gradients and why Rodriguez let Contador get away on stage 17. And other awesome Vuelta things.
