Episode 60: The king is dead, long live the king!

We’re baaaack! After an unintentional hiatus, we’re back on the podcast wagon. Jeff reveals our break was the result of him going to Europe to campaign for me to be UCI president.

First up BREAKING NEWS: Fat Pat is gone! We never thought this day would come. Although Jeff’s bid to get me as president fails, McQuaid’s bid fails as well, and Brian Cookson is the new UCI president. We discuss having cautious optimism we have about Cookson’s ‘reign.’

We ‘wrap-up’ the Vuelta by talking about the reaction to Horner’s win. Anna talks herself into like Horner.

We rant about the World Championships. It really bothers us that the race doesn’t always accurately reflect who had the best season. We think it should be by points! (and if we went by UCI rankings, Froome should have the rainbow jersey) Also, Jeff thinks we should change rainbow stripes to rainbow target.

We actually talk about women’s racing! Jeff does a great job analyzing the women’s World Championship race.

We go on weird F1 and the American Cup (sailing) tangents.

We are BEFUDDLED by the Giro d’Italia starting in Belfast. Apparently it is now the Giro d’Italia and Ireland. The whole tradition of starting GTs in other countries makes NO SENSE.

Episode 59: Welcome to the SlackerCast!

Note: sorry for the bad sound quality- both of our mics weren’t set up right!

We prove ourselves to be the laziest podcast by talking about races we didn’t watch or follow.

We discuss how a 3 week stage race in the US is a looooong way off.

We wonder if we don’t get Bradly Wiggins because we’re not British.[VeloNation]

We compare Phil and Paul to math teachers who’ve been teaching for 40 years and can’t seem to find a new script.

We get excited about all the young riders having good runs in the US races, PLUS all the younger American riders going to bigger teams next year!

Anna comes up with a clever classification for the GTs: The Giro is sophisticated mother, the Tour is the overbearing father, and the Vuelta is the red-headed stepchild. Anna also confesses her shock that Nibali is actually a winning rider.

The pundits CONTINUE to put Basso as a Vuelta threat and we continue to be amazed by this.

Episode 58: The Doping is Back in Town

We’re back talking about all your favorite topics- doping, the UCI, Pat McQuaid!

First up, the Senate report.

We speculate on why O’Grady got so much grief for his ’98 positive over the others who were revealed as positive in the report. We discuss the other type of omerta that still exists in cycling – doping methods and networks.

Also, how and when do cycling fans move on? Who is at fault for all headlines that focus on doping – the journalists or the fans who click on the links?

Then, we talk about Pat McQuaid’s slow decent into crazy-town

And we demonstrate that we are bad at math.

We also talk a little bit about actual racing, when we talk about team transfers! Jeff rechristens it “Schleck Trek” and sings a little ditty.

Episode 37: Change is a’comin’

After a break for the Thanksgiving holiday, we’re back with an episode FULL of FUN!

  • A panel is finally named for the UCI Independent Commission. We’re cautiously optimistic at this point, as it has fewer buddies and relatives of the Dynamic Duo than we expected [Cycling Weekly] Anna just likes to say the titles of those involved.
  • A UCI protest group has finally formed [Cyclingnews]. We break down the chain of events (as we understand them), talk about the fan participation and backlash against both the Change Cycling Now group and the Cycling Fans Voice.
    • Scott from the Velocast pens an open letter explaining how he came to be at the panel [Velocast].
    • Mainly we just want people to chill the fuck out and take a minute before reacting to the news (but we say it in a much nicer way).
    • Football has a fan’s group that could act as a guide for cycling [Football Supporters’ Federation]
    • Irish Peloton muses on why cycling fans stay with the sport, even through the bad times [Irish Peloton]
  • Anna gets on her soapbox and talks about her issues with the Cyclepassion calendar (probably not what you think). [2013 Calendar– good!] [2011 Calendar- bad!] For a less…revealing women’s cycling calendar option, check this one out.
    • Andrea, over at Winnipeg CycleChick, has a great article summing up a lot of how Anna feels

Episode 36: Short and Sweet

We could get used to this off season business- helps keep our episodes short and sweet!

  • Anna crawls out from under her rock and finds out that the UCI is in talks with the OPQS owner and chairman to start a new cycling league. Not that we really understand what this means, but we do know that anything the UCI/Pat McQuaid is attached to, we don’t trust. [VeloNation]
  • Benoit Joachim laments that dopers made more money and had longer careers than him…and that he never doped. [Cyclingnews]
  • More pro stars than ever are on Twitter- does it affect your opinion of them? Also, Jeff does his Jens impression. And spends some time on a soapbox.
  • Stop the presses! Vino paid for a race win! Who is shocked by this? Anyone? [VeloNation]
  • Wiggins gets hit by a car and changes his tune (events not related). [VeloNation]
