Episode 78: Spoiler Alert! Paris-Roubiax edition

If we had been writing the Paris-Roubaix script, Jeff and I would’ve made the group of favorites duke it out in the velodrome, but it was still an amazing race! It’s the best Paris-Roubaix ever, until the next Paris-Roubaix. Jeff has some interesting insight into the mind of OPQS, Anna admits she kinda has a crush on Brad worries Jeff will break up with her for admitting it!

Episode 70: Dubai, Phinney, Qatar, Paris-Nice

We speculate on Taylor Phinney’s future, wonder if Tony Martin is a whiner, decide we like the 4 day stage races, and can’t wait for the new Paris-Nice route! Also, if Wiggins and Fabian went head to head at Paris-Roubaix, who would win?

Episode 47: The Gang’s All Here for Milan-Sanremo!

We get the whole gang together to talk about Milan-Sanremo! And what a race it was, huh?? It’s fast becoming Anna’s favorite spring race. We also discuss the “paperboy technique” employed by many on stage 6 of Tirreno-Adriatco and Anna gets her ranty-pants on over people being rude. Plus, the trials of being Andy Schleck.

Episode 39: 2012 Cycling Moments

In this special (short) episode, we talk about some the 2012 cycling moments that helped make the season memorable for us!

In Anna’s (very) unscientific survey, there were a few moments that quite a few people mentioned.

  • Tom Boonen’s win at Paris-Roubaix

  • Ryder winning the Giro
  • The Olympics- Vos’ emotional win and Taylor’s oh-so-close 4th

Then there’s the race that got Anna’s vote: Milan-Sanremo. Watching Nibali, Cancellara and Gerrans duke it out until the end, and cross the line with the peloton snapping at their heels- amazing!

Other, smaller moments that got votes:

  • Iljo Kaisse and the Tour of Turkey- slipping his chain in the last 2km, yet still managing to hold off the peloton and take the stage (at 6:50)

  • Stage 17 of the Veulta (one of Anna’s favs), when Rodriguez finally cracked and Contador took an emotional win

  • Stage 8 of the Tour, when Madiot freaked out over Pinot’s win

  • Stage 15 of the Giro, when Rabottini refuses let Rodriguez take away his solo breakaway efforts

All of these moments helped make 2012 an awesome year for cycling. We can’t wait for the new season to start and make more moments!

Episode 11: If Nibbles Goes, I Go

After an unintended and forced hiatus, Pelotonitis Podcast is BACK, baby. This week, Jeff Chandler (@c_fiddy) and I tackle tough subjects, such as, will the world end if Nibbles leaves Liquigas and is Jeff also powerless against Jakob’s dimples? And Jeff also makes Anna choose between Boonen, Taylor and Nibbles. The choice is obvious.

News!

  • We are forced to contemplate the unthinkable: Nibali leaving Liquigas link link Jeff wagers it won’t happen and will buy Anna a cap from his new team if Nibbles does move.
  • Is charging to watch road races going against the spirit of the sport? link
  • In the “shocking news” department, comes Richie Porte’s statement that he feels more at home on Sky than Saxo Bank link
  • Also in the “shocking news” department, Jakob Fugulsang is probably going to leave RadioShack link
  • In the “extremely cocky” department, Alberto Contador says he still thinks of the 2011 as “his” link
  • You may not remember Jan Ullrich, but he’s been through some tough times link

Racing!

  • Giro d’Italia: Fast becoming Anna’s favorite Grand Tour, her massive fangirl crush on Taylor Phinney is evident as we moan poor Taylor’s luck.
  • Tour of California: May’s other supremely important race. Jeff make a BOLD prediction and if he’s right, Anna will buy him a cap from that player’s team. Or maybe not.

Episode 9: A Tale of Bad Chasers

Another week, another guest host. This week I welcome Jeff Chandler (@c_fiddy) as my co host. He was a great partner because he laughed at all my jokes 😉 In less fun news, I deleted my side of recording in an act of stupidity. The good  news is that Jeff and his friend Dan were able to save it. The bad news is that the sound quality is not great- I’m really loud (shocking!) and he’s pretty quiet. So if you can get past that, you’ll find a pretty good episode. Onwards!

News!

Racing!

Paris-Roubaix

  • Should Pozzato have chased? Did it cost him the race? Possibly…
  • Why couldn’t Sky catch Boonen? Bad tactics? Underestimation of Boonen?
  • When an outsider takes a big race, does that actually make him a contender every race he’s in? (eg, Turgot, Vansummeren)
  • De Vlaemmick is a grumpy old man.

Amstel Gold

  • We don’t have much to say about this. Except Jeff does predict the winner..

Episode 8: The UCI is logical

Well. It’s a sad time at the Pelotontis Podcast HQ. Dan has had to leave the podcast due to life obligations. Sooooo, now I’m on the search for new co-host. Which for the next few weeks I’ll be having guests hosts! This week, I welcome the brains behind the title of this podcast, Jeff (@jaowen). This week, we catch up on the Tour of Flanders and talk about how the UCI tries out being logical for once. And we find out who Jeff’s man crush is.

NEWS!

RACES!

  • Tour of Flanders: Boonen made the right tactical decisions while Pippo and Ballan did not; why did no one seem to care about Langeveld’s crash?
  • Paris-Roubaix: there could be RAIN! Thor’s talking smack and we’re not sure he has the right to.

Episode 7: Boonen Bonanza!

After life got in the way of our podcast last week, we had a ton of racing to catch up on! Milan-Sanremo, E3, Gent Wevelgem, 3 Days of De Panne… Plus there was Boonen to moon over.

NEWS!

  • (1:40) Apparently Trek-Livestrong (now Bontrager-Livestrong) and Chipotle Development were denied invitations to ATOC last year as well, based on having the same paying agent- but Trek-Livestrong was the only team to fix up the management issue so it could ride again this year… (CyclingNews article)
  • (5:55) Wiggins and Cav will be making their debut together at the Tour of Romandie, not the Tour de France like everyone assumed (CyclingNews article)
  • (10:20) Brailsforth says it’s unrealistic to achieve yellow, green and Olympic gold for Cav and Wiggins, but of course Cav disagrees. (VeloNation article 1, article 2)

RACES!

  • (18:00) A week late, but definitely not a dollar short, Milan-Sanremo
    • Should the rainbow jersey wearer always be an all-arounder?
    • Should Sky have given EBH more support? Is Sky wasting EBH’s talent? Or is EBH wasting his?
    • What does it even mean, “the strongest rider should win?” Did the strongest rider win?
    • If the race ends in a bunch sprint, is it really a race at all??
    • All these questions, AND MORE answered in this segment.
  • (36:05) Daniel talks about E3 Prijs Harelbeke, because Anna didn’t watch it.
  • (39:30) Gent-Wevelgem
    • Can’t all sprints be described as chaotic?? Anna thinks so.
    • Fabian’s a bit of a one trick pony
    • Is 2012 Boonen the 2011 Gilbert?? Time will tell…
  • (51:30) Briefly, Criterium International and 3 Days of De Panne
